Back With a BANG! and a whimper for some!

The Premier League started on Saturday and Like many people across the land, I am very pleased to see it back! The excitement , the goals, the shocks and all, the opening weekend had everything we love about the English Premier League.

Manchester United thumped Swansea City in David Moyes’ first league game as manager, Cardiff City suffered defeat on their first game in the Premier League and Aston Villa stunned Arsenal on the opening day.

Rickie Lambert’s dream week continued as he helped Southampton to win at West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool started the new campaign with three points.

Roberto Martinez picked up a point in his first match as Everton manager, while the summer revolution at Sunderland got off to a rocky start following defeat by Fulham

Yesterday Tottenham also kicked off their campaign with a narrow win over crystal Palace and Chelsea Celebrated the return of the special one with a fine 2-0 win over Hull Tigers(prefer that to city)

Arsenal woes

Arsenal Fans all around the World must feel sad and angry at their club. I know it’s just the first game of the season but I think the manner of the defeat is what would have made Arsenal Fans really mad! I wrote a post last season Highlighting if Arsene is still the one for Arsenal. The problem with Arsenal and Arsene go deep! If your manager says winning fourth is like a trophy then that says it all! The manager and Board don’t match the ambitions of the fans. The fourth place he banks on is not as clear this year with teams like Tottenham and Liverpool strengthening. With the champions League Qualifiers coming up the squad looks very thin.

As a Neutral I think it would do Arsenal a world of good if they didn’t make the champions league proper this season because it will make the club realise that they need to have a better plan going forward as a football club. If they make it, it will only mask everything all over again and they will be in the same position next season. Just like Arsene did reacting to that 8-2 mauling they got by Manchester United few seasons ago, A similar damaging feat will spur the Frenchman to life again. I think Arsene cannot spot talent anymore that’s why Arsenal are in this position. He relied heavily on his astute signings and dealing but now managers like Klopp rom Dortmund have taken it to a whole new level. Players like Gervinho, Chamakh, Andre Santos and Park choo young make my point stronger meanwhile Klopp has recruited players like Lewandowski, Kagawa, Hummels and Gundoguan and made them champions! Something needs to be done fast or it will be a long and hard season for the Gunners

Oh Robin Van Persie

Robin van Persie acknowledged that it was important for Manchester United to make a winning start after scoring two goals in their 4-1 victory over Swansea City. Van Persie’s contribution was sublime, hooking in the opener before smashing home a 20-yard effort 17 minutes from time. Danny Welbeck also netted twice for the defending champions in their first league match under new manager David Moyes, while Wilfried Bony struck for Swansea.

I Personally have my doubts about Moysey time even with this thumping win but boy this went a long way to easing my pain! Even if we don’t sign the players we need, we have a very fine one in Robin Van Persie. I will enjoy watching him this season and even though i do not expect a trophy at least i know we will compete.

The special One returns!

SIGH! I never thought this day would come again. He is back and boy I am afraid! The way chelsea played yesterday albeit against HULL was scary. The amount of attacking talent on display in this team is crazy. Hazard, Oscar and De Bruyne were impressive. I am not surprised they are all good technical players with great movement and an eye for a pass. Frank Lampard rolled back the years with a POWERFUL Ronaldo Esque free kick that helped them to victory. Overall it was a fine display and I am not looking forward to the match against them next week. Premiership is well and truly on the way and I cannot wait to see how it all unfolds!

Is Arsene Wenger still the one for the Gunners?

Netherlands Soccer Champions League Yesterday Arsene Wenger ruled out leaving Arsenal with the Quote I want to stay if I do well,’  and ‘The club is in a very strong position for the future’. The Latter of the 2 comments is something i am sure Arsenal Fans are tired of hearing. When the Gunners moved from the feared Highbury to the Emirates stadium this was the promise Arsene gave the fans on the back of an unbeaten season and a champions league final.  These claims were definitely promising then but now I don’t think its going to cut it anymore. The Arsenal we all feared  one time have dropped about 2 notches. They can no longer realistically challenge for a trophy and are mocked constantly! http://www.sincearsenallastwonatrophy.co.uk/ is constant reminder to Arsenal fans about the recent decline.  Arsene Wenger has Claimed in the past that his Success is not only measured by trophies. Tell that to Man city and Chelsea that have been picking up trophies that Arsenal have failed to pick up. YES! Arsenal are a finely run club, YES! The finances are there and Yes Arsenal have a good youth system that occasionally produces Fine talent. All these things are good and for a club like Arsenal its Expected because they are a top club. If Arsene wants credit for that then he’s is joking because  for example in boxing nobody knows you unless you are winning. Only the belt holders are reckoned with and ordinary boxers don’t get credit for boxing with their weight class or patted on the back for at least challenging the belt holder to a few rounds. Some fans say Arsene is not splashing the cash! Every year, There is a “WARCHEST” that is published in the media that Arsene Supposedly has but no one sees. Lets take a look at what Arsene has been spending over the last 2 years

arsenal spending

he has spent 105,450,000 in the last 2 seasons and received 114,400,000. Now lets look at what he spent in the 02/03 and 03/04 Seasons

arsenal spending 2

We see here that Arsene spent 27,100,100 and received 17,540,000. Yes the Arsenal Team then didn’t need a lot of tweaking with the likes of Henry, Viera, Pires, Campbell to rely on at the time but the point I am trying to make to a lot of arsenal fans that think the board is not backing Arsene with money is THERE IS MONEY! I believe the problem lies with Arsene. The amount of quality players that are willing to walk out and have walked out on Arsenal in the last few years show one of two things. 1. They are all money grabbing bastards that use arsenal as their stepping stone or 2. They just don’t believe in the managers ability to guide them to trophy. I think it’s the Latter. I am not an Arsenal fan and I can look at this from a neutral point of view. I believe Arsene has not adapted to the new version of the game that has evolved from the time he led his team to an Unbeaten league season. Arsene is a superb manager and what he has done to Arsenal in whole is amazing but on the pitch Arsenal  need to evolve with match situations and that’s something Arsene has failed at time and time again. The game against Tottenham at white hart lane this season showed that He rarely goes to games with a plan and seems like he just says, Play football! The amount of Detail that goes into football these days means you need to cover all aspects of the game. In Conclusion Arsenal and Arsene himself need to act fast in recognising real talent before other teams get them or sign actual quality players and not mediocre players they hope to develop and waste more time starving the fans of the Trophies they so desperately seek and deserve to be honest because they have been very patient. So to answer the question is Arsene still the one for the gunners? My answer is in 2 parts. YES! if he is willing to adapt to new situations and not always look to play the beautiful football when there even his team is not playing well then yes he is the one. beautiful football will not always get you the win as teams like city and United of Manchester have shown over the years You need to win Ugly sometimes. The second part of my answer is NO! If he continues with the same attitude and same ‘ we have a bright future’ quotes then  I’m afraid winning a trophy let alone the Premier league is a true MYTH

Here is a Video for the Arsenal fans out there enjoy!
